S., Wildlife ecology, Department of Biology, China West Normal University, Sichuan, 1987. B. S., Biology, Department of Biology, China West Normal University, Sichuan, 1984. Current Occupation: Professor in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Biology, Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Science | Research Interests: | Using state of the art methods based on macro-ecology and micro (molecular, genomic and metagenomic)-ecology, we are interested in assessing the past, present and future status of endangered species in China, especially the giant and red pandas, inferring their evolutionary and demographic processes and proposing targeted strategies for their future survival. Our research falls in all areas of conservation biology, including conservation evolutionary biology, conservation ecology, conservation behavior, conservation physiology, conservation genetics and genomics, conservation metagenomics and conservation management. | Awards and Honors: | 2019: Second Prize of National Natural Science Award of China, State Council of China 2019: Lifetime Achievement Award for Giant Panda Research and Conservation, Bureau of Sichuan Forestry and Grassland, Sichuan Governmental News Office, WWF and SEE 2018: Outstanding Science and Technology Achievement Prize of Chinese Academy of Sciences 2018: Elected Academician of The World Academy of Sciences 2017: Elected Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences 2012: National Outstanding Worker of Science and Technology, China Association for Science and Technology 2009: National Outstanding Field Worker of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology of China 2002: National Allowance Award, State Council of China 2001: National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, National Natural Science Foundation of China 1999: Outstanding Young Scientist Grant of Chinese Academy of Sciences | Professional Activities: | Vice Chair and Executive Vice Chair, Endangered Species Scientific Commission, PRC, 2008-now Chair, China Chapter, International Society of Conservation Biology, 2009-now Vice president and Secretary General, China Zoological Society, 2004-now Vice president, China Ecological Society, 2011-now President, China Mammalogical Society, 2013-now Deputy Director, Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2008-2017 Director, CAS Key Lab of Animal Ecology & Conservation Biology, Institute of Zoology, CAS, 2003-2013 Member, International Federation of Mammalogists, 2007-now Member, IUCN/SSC Bear Specialist Group, 2000-now Member, IUCN/SSC Small Carnivore Specialist Group, 2000-now Member, IUCN/SSC Primate Specialist Group, 2005-2010 | Editorial Boards: | Asian Regional Editor, Conservation Biology Associate Editor-in-Chief, Science China-Life Sciences Editor, Proceedings of the Royal Society B Editor, Integrative Zoology Editor, Current Zoology | Research Grants: | MOST-973 Programme: Endangered mechanism and conservation strategy of endangered species, 2007-2012.
